American Measures — Ned Martin’s Amused

American Measures

An illustration of the absurdity of the Imperial system of measurements in use in America. The illustration shows the arbitrariness of the scale of the various measures (with 12 inches to a foot, 3 feet to a yard, 1760 yards to a mile and 16 ounces to a pound, contrasting starkly with 1000 millimetres to a metre, 1000 metres to a kilometre, 1000 grams to a kilogram and 1000 kilograms to a tonne in the seemingly much more logical metric system), and the apparent backwardness of the month-day-year calendar system.
